STORIES AND ESSAYSbyTerry Davis
ABOUT My writing . . .
I am a recovering pediatric heart surgeon who spent 44 years in academic medicine and surgery. As an academician, I published over 100 papers, book chapters and other forms of scientific writing. While that was fun and rewarding, it turns out no room exists for emotion in that format. My first real essay, "Thoughts from the Transition Zone" was published by the New England Journal of Medicine - about the mood swings I experienced in the process of recovering hearts for transplantation. That got me hooked on other types of writing, and began my work with short stories. Over the years, my stories and essays have appeared in various literary magazines, most of which have relatively small circulations. I have collected them here, so they are all in one place.
